An Installation Partner Is Not a Staffing Agency: What Is the Difference for Your Project?

A staffing agency primarily provides people. An installation partner delivers an agreed part of the implementation. Both models can be appropriate, but they do not offer the same scope of responsibility, preparation and coordination.

If you have your own technical supervision, equipment and clearly allocated tasks, adding individual workers may be the right choice. If you need a prepared team that joins the installation as one unit, look for an implementation partner.

Supply of labour

  • Main output: available workers.
  • Work supervision: primarily the customer.
  • Preparation: based on assignments for individual workers.
  • Communication: through the customer’s representative.
  • Changes: the customer reallocates the work.

Installation partner

  • Main output: an agreed part of the implementation.
  • Work supervision: an agreed team leader cooperates with the customer.
  • Preparation: team, documentation, equipment and mobilisation.
  • Communication: directly through the team’s responsible person.
  • Changes: the partner assesses the impact and proposes the next step.

When is adding individual workers enough?

The labour supply model makes sense when the customer knows exactly which skills are required, has its own supervisor and handles daily coordination. The workers join the existing structure and perform assigned tasks.

The benefit is a straightforward increase in capacity. However, more of the organisational burden remains with the customer: task allocation, equipment checks, changes and coordination between trades.

What does an installation partner take responsibility for?

An installation partner prepares the team as a functioning unit. The partner agrees the scope, proposes the team composition, checks the documentation and appoints contact persons. On site, the partner manages its own part of the work within the agreed boundaries.

The customer still manages the overall project, but does not need to supervise every external worker individually. Communication runs through a person who knows the status and can pass decisions to the whole team.

The difference is visible before mobilisation

When individual workers are supplied, preparation often focuses on the date, number of people and trades. An implementation team also asks about drawings, materials, access, tools, safety rules and the handover process.

These questions are not unnecessary administration. They reveal obstacles before an entire team is waiting on site.

Who solves a problem directly on site?

Every project involves technical questions and changes to the work sequence. What matters is how quickly the information reaches the right person. An installation partner should have a designated leader or coordinator who defines the problem, checks the options and confirms the next step.

Without clear responsibility, even a minor obstacle can be passed between people while the work remains stopped.

How can you compare quotations fairly?

Do not compare the hourly price alone. First align the scope:

  • Who prepares and leads the team?
  • Who provides standard tools and protective equipment?
  • Who communicates changes and monitors their impact?
  • Who handles administration before mobilisation?
  • What output is handed over after completion?

A lower rate may be the right choice if you have enough capacity for internal supervision. A more comprehensive delivery makes more sense when you need to reduce the coordination burden and gain an accountable team.

Which model is right for your project?

Choose labour supply if you need individuals for your own team and manage every work step internally. Choose an installation partner if you need an established team with its own preparation, leadership and direct communication.

PM Stahl acts as an implementation partner for manufacturers of machinery, production lines and technology systems. Send us the basic project details and we will clarify whether you need individual capacity or a prepared installation team.
